Hawk families,

We are 1 month away from the opening day of our 2026-2027 school year! One month away from welcoming the Class of 2039 into our kindergarten rooms!

I hope you are having a wonderful summer with your children, making some incredible core memories, and taking some well-deserved time to relax and unplug!
While summer is a time for fun, it is also a fantastic opportunity to sneak in some casual learning. If you are looking for simple ways to keep your child's mind active and prevent the "summer slide," here are a few easy habits you can build into your daily routine:

  • Read Together: Use this extra free time to dive into some great books. Reading aloud or sharing a book together is one of the best ways to foster a love for learning.
  • Kitchen Math & Independence: Bake or cook a meal together! Measuring ingredients, doubling recipes, and telling time are excellent, hands-on ways to build math and independence skills.
  • Summer Journaling: If you take a vacation or explore something fun around the local area, encourage your child to write a quick "journal entry" about his/her day. It’s a wonderful way to keep writing skills sharp.
  • ✏️ Crucial Tip for Rising 3rd, 4th, and 5th Graders: Please use this time to help your child memorize multiplication facts. When students enter the upper grades fluent in their math facts, it makes a massive, positive difference in their confidence and success with higher-level math.

📅 Key Dates for Your Calendar
Mark your calendars! We can’t wait to see our returning students and meet our newest little learners.

  • Meet Your Teacher: Thursday, August 6th from either 1:00-2:30 OR 4:00-5:30
Come explore the classroom, drop off school supplies, and say hello to your child's teacher!

  • First Day of School: Monday, August 10th (PreK and Kindergarteners will get their first day of school from their teachers at Meet Your Teacher)

❓ Questions?
Our school office is open throughout the summer, with summer hours of Monday-Thursday, 7:30-4:30. Feel free to reach out to us at 344-4079.

Enjoy the rest of your summer days! We can't wait to see you all back soon.

Principal

Welcome Ms. Adkins!

Dear Citrus Springs Elementary Families,
My name is Chantel Adkins, and I am excited to join Citrus Springs Elementary as your new Assistant Principal. It is a privilege to become part of a school community with such a strong commitment to students, families, and one another.
My educational journey has included serving as a substitute teacher, paraprofessional, classroom teacher, and most recently as a Behavior Teacher On Special Assignment (TOSA). Each role has strengthened my passion for helping students succeed while supporting the teachers and families who make that success possible.
I believe some of the best learning happens when students feel connected, supported, and encouraged to take on new challenges. As Assistant Principal, I look forward to spending time in classrooms, getting to know our students and families, celebrating accomplishments, and working alongside our dedicated staff to make this a positive and successful school year.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time listening and playing music, visiting Disney parks, and cheering on Pittsburgh sports teams. I look forward to getting to know your families and sharing in the experiences that make our Hawk community so special.
As we soar into a new school year together, we are reminded that every student's journey is unique and that our greatest successes come when students, families, and staff work together in support of one another.
Thank you for welcoming me to the Hawk family. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to serve as your Assistant Principal. Please know that my door is always open. Whether you have ideas, questions, or simply want to introduce yourself, I look forward to partnering with you in support of our students as we help our Hawks grow, achieve, and reach new heights throughout the year.
Soaring Together,
Chantel Adkins

🍎 Adopt-a-Class Program

The "Adopt-a-Class" program is a wonderful opportunity for businesses, individuals, and community organizations to directly support our students and teachers. By "adopting a classroom," partners help ensure our students have additional resources to support their learning.
  • What is it? It's a partnership where a sponsor provides financial support to a specific classroom, grade level, or school program (like Art, Music, or PE).
  • What does the donation cover? The funds are used directly by the teacher to purchase additional materials to expand on current lessons.
  • Why is it important? Teachers often spend their own money on supplies to meet classroom needs. The Adopt-a-Class program helps lighten this financial burden and enhances the educational opportunities for all students in that classroom.

If you are a parent who owns a business, know of a community group, or simply wish to make an individual contribution, you can help us by reaching out! Donations are tax deductible.
