As the flowers begin to bloom and the days grow longer, it’s hard to believe that Spring Break is just around the corner! While we are all looking forward to a well-deserved rest, I want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible focus our students have shown lately.
Walk down any hallway right now, and you’ll see our students hard at work. From mastering new strategies, to diving deep into fractions, or applying phonics skills in every day reading, the energy in our classrooms is awesome. We are currently in a vital stretch of the academic year where many "lightbulb moments" happen, and I am so proud of the grit and curiosity our children are bringing to school every single day.
This first week of March brings us Read Across America. While we will have "dress up days" throughout the week, our focus will be on both the importance and enjoyment of reading. We will be holding Book March Madness "playoffs" over the next few weeks. Starting with a sweet 16 of picture books, students will listen to the books and determine which book will move on in its bracket, eventually determining the CSE book winner.
We know that a strong partnership between school and home is the "wings of wisdom" to students soaring. As we gear up for the final months of the school year, here are a few simple ways you can support your child’s learning:
-
Protect the Routine: Even as the weather gets nicer, and stays lighter longer, try to keep consistent bedtimes and morning routines. A well-rested student is a ready-to-learn student!
-
The Power of 20 Minutes: Whether it’s a graphic novel, a picture book, or a chapter of a mystery, reading for just 20 minutes a day at home significantly boosts vocabulary and comprehension.
-
Real-World Math: Involve your child in everyday math—counting change at the store, measuring ingredients for dinner, or calculating how many minutes until baseball practice starts.
-
Ask "High-Stakes" Questions: Instead of asking "How was your day?" (which often gets a one-word answer), try: "What was the most challenging thing you did today?" or "What made you laugh at recess?"
-
Check on goals: All students, K-5th grades, have the goal of passing 2 iReady math lessons and 2 iReady reading lessons a week. For our 3rd-5th graders, they will have Study Island Blue Ribbon goals being set in the coming weeks.
Spring Break will be here March 23rd. We hope this time allows your family to unplug, recharge, and enjoy the sunshine. We want our students to return with full "batteries," ready to finish the school year strong!
Thank you for your continued support of our school community. We couldn't do this without you.

Staff Appreciation Week is May 4-8, 2026, and it will be here before we know it. We would like to express our gratitude for the hardworking staff members who contribute so much to our students. In an effort to make this week memorable and enjoyable for our staff, we are seeking sponsors for breakfast or lunch. If you are interested in contributing to this meaningful week, please feel free to email Mrs. Damewood, principal secretary, damewoodk@citrusschools.org

Congratulations to our Hawk Leaders of the Month!
This month, we are excited to celebrate our Hawk Leaders for demonstrating the character trait of honesty.
Honesty means telling the truth, making good choices even when no one is watching, and taking responsibility for our actions. These students have shown integrity in the classroom, on the playground, and throughout our school. They are shining examples of what it means to be a CSE Hawk!
We are so proud of the way these students:
✨ Tell the truth
✨ Admit mistakes and learn from them
✨ Return lost items to friends or teachers
✨ Make trustworthy choices
Thank you to our families for helping us grow children of strong character. Together, we are building leaders who soar with integrity!
Congratulations, Hawk Helpers! Keep soaring! 🦅💙
Way to go, Hawks!

Attendance - We appreciate notes being sent in when your child is absent. Please make sure that the note includes your child's first AND last name. With a school of more than 900 Hawks, we want to make sure we have accurate attendance for everyone.

The "Adopt-a-Class" program is a wonderful opportunity for businesses, individuals, and community organizations to directly support our students and teachers. By "adopting a classroom," partners help ensure our students have additional resources to support their learning.
- What is it? It's a partnership where a sponsor provides financial support to a specific classroom, grade level, or school program (like Art, Music, or PE).
- What does the donation cover? The funds are used directly by the teacher to purchase additional materials to expand on current lessons.
- Why is it important? Teachers often spend their own money on supplies to meet classroom needs. The Adopt-a-Class program helps lighten this financial burden and enhances the educational opportunities for all students in that classroom.
If you are a parent who owns a business, know of a community group, or simply wish to make an individual contribution, you can help us by reaching out! Donations are tax deductible.

Research continues to confirm that parents are a vital part of the educational process and of the educational experiences of their children. When school personnel and families work together, relationships are developed that support learning and children are provided an enhanced opportunity for success in school and throughout life. As a parent, you play an important role in your child’s education. We encourage parents to be involved as much as possible. Volunteering, mentoring, and attending parent conferences are all parent involvement activities. Gain information and be part of the decision making process by joining advisory committees at the school and district level.
